How to use QGet to manage the BT download of multiple QNAP NAS servers remotely

QNAP NAS supports Download Station which you can use to download files independent of PC in a more energy-saving way. You can also manage the download tasks remotely even if you were away from home.

To access the Download Station of the NAS, you can login the web-based interface by web browser or use the Windows/ Mac QGet utility provided by QNAP.

NextGEN gallery plugin for WordPress

What is NextGEN?
NextGEN Gallery is a powerful picture & album plugin for WordPress. Users can import pictures from NextGEN gallery to attach to your blog articles.

Activate NextGEN Gallery plugins in WordPress
Log in to your WordPress, once in the administration page click on the 'Plugins' button located at the top-right corner.

Activate all the NextGEN plugins as the image shown below:

Upload/ Import image(s) to your gallery
Beware! To prevent NextGEN from deleting your photos/images imported from your NAS please un-tick this option as shown below prior to any image uploads.

Before you can publish pictures/photos inside your blog post you will need to first create a gallery within NextGEN. Let's create a gallery called 'test-gallery' in our example.

Follow the instructions below to add image(s) to the gallery we've just created. Please note that you can add multiple images at step 4 by re-browsing the next image you wish to upload after selecting the previous one.

Follow the instructions below if you wish to import image(s) from a server path then you are best to first create a folder under your default WordPress gallery folder which is (Mount the Qweb folder first!), from the Qweb folder, - 'wordpress/wp-content/gallery/'. Next, copy all the images to this folder we've just created. Finally you will need to type in the server path as 'wp-content/gallery/test-gallery2' and press 'Import folder' to start.

Just a quick note that in NextGEN 'album groups galleries' therefore you may wish to create an album to group your similar galleries. Follow the instructions below to create an album called 'test-album'.

Then add both 'test-gallery' and 'test-gallery2' we created earlier to this album.

Let's try to write a sample blog and this guide will demonstrate how to import:

Into your blog articles.

Write a new post by clicking on 'Write' then 'Post' a web-based text editor will show up. Simply fill up the 'Title' and 'Post' with anything you like then click on the little icon on the top-right of the menu bar.

To import a single image, simply select the desired image along with your preferred options.

To import a gallery, simply select the desired gallery along with your preferred options.

To import the entire album, simply select the desired album along with your preferred options.

Once you finish editing your blog article change the 'Publish Status' to 'Published' and click on the 'Publish' button to publish your blog and to end the edit mode.

WordPress Installation via QPKG

What is WordPress?
WordPress is a free, open-source personal publishing system that allows you to easily create a complex blog, or web log, on your site. Written in PHP and supported by a MySQL database, WordPress offers intuitive administrative tools and sophisticated design features that make it easy to develop and integrate a personal or professional blog on your site.

Below's taken from the official WordPress site:
WordPress started in 2003 with a single bit of code to enhance the typography of everyday writing and with fewer users than you can count on your fingers and toes. Since then it has grown to be the largest self-hosted blogging tool in the world, used on hundreds of thousands of sites and seen by tens of millions of people every day. Create a database for WordPress in phpMyAdmin
Prior to installing WordPress, we have to create a new database for it.
Go to the built-in phpMyAdmin page http://NAS-IP-Adress/phpMyAdmin/ and enter the user name and password to login. You can also select your preferred language.

Once in, enter the name 'WordPress' in the field says 'Create new database', then click on 'Create' button. That's it.

Install WordPress via QPKG
Go to 'System Tools' -> 'QPKG' and click 'Get QPKG' to get a list of currently available software packages. Click on the link to download the WordPress.zip file.

Once downloaded first unzip the file archive then go to 'System Tools' -> 'System Update' and install the WordPress.qpkg file the same way as if you were updating the system firmware.

Upon successfully installation you should see an entry in your QPKG page like below.

Starting the web installation
If this is your first time installing WordPress, you will see the message below after clicking on the 'Web Page' link from the QPKG page. Just click 'Create a Configuration File' to go to the next step.

From the previous step we've gathered database information for installing WordPress, simply click on the button 'Let's go!' to go to the next step.

Enter the information for your MySQL database server and click on the 'Submit' button.

Next type in your blog title for your first blog and your email address. The checkbox underneath is to specify whether or not you wish your blog to appear in the search results of Google or Technorati. Now it looks like we've got all the details required to start the installation. Click on 'Install WordPress' to start the actual installation.

Upon successful installation you should arrive this page as shown below. Please note that WordPress will create a default administration account and password for you to log in for the very first time. Do not forget to write it down. Next, we can log in to WordPress by clicking on 'Log In'.

Input the default administrator username "admin" and the password you've just written down then click on 'Login' button.

Once in your will be first taken to the administration backend where most of the settings and the configurations can be changed and made there.
The first thing that is strongly suggested to do is to change the default password to something easier for you to remember. After that you may click on the link above that says 'View site' (where the red arrow's pointing to) to go to the public frontend.

Hvad er Squeezebox Duet?
Med Squeezebox Duet kan du høre musikken, du holder af, i alle rum. Du har - principielt - adgang til millioner af sange - endda selvom din computer er slukket. Så... hvad er SSOTS?
Squeeze Center (det nye navn på SlimServer, startende med version 7.0) er den server software, der først blev udviklet til, at køre på en PC. Trin 1 Installer SSOTS via QPKG

Vælg den rigtige download-fil og husk, at gemme filen til 'Public' share i din NAS. Filnavnet er 'squeezecenter-7.0.1.tgz'.

Nu vender vi tilbage til SSOTS web-administrationssiden for, at påbegynde installationen. Tryk på 'Install' i toppen af siden for, at fortsætte.

To satisfy the increasing demand for embedded network surveillance solution on NAS, QNAP unveiled a value-added application 'Surveillance Station' on its All-in-One Turbo NAS Server (TS-109/ TS-209/ TS-409 Series). QNAP NAS users can now upgrade the firmware to version 2.1.0 or above to experience this powerful IP-based security application developed by the rock-solid network surveillance technology of QNAP. The Surveillance Station enables users to configure and connect two IP cameras at the same time and manage the functions including live audio and video monitoring, recording, and playback etc. The installation and configurations can all be easily carried out remotely by the IE browser in a few steps. Various recording modes are provided: continuous recording, motion-detection recording, and schedule recording. Users can flexibly define the recording settings according their security plan.

The QNAP NAS supports versatile IP camera brands. To enable users to set up a surveillance system more conveniently, you can purchase optional IP cameras from QNAP. The cameras support wireless network connection to simplify wiring and setup, two-way audio recording and audio broadcast, and remote monitoring by 3GPP handset.

The ICS-1013 IP camera is used with the QNAP NAS in this example. Our installation procedure is as below:
A. Plan your home/office network topology
B. Set up the IP Camera
C. Set up NAS and the recording modes
D. Configure Schedule Recording on NAS
E. Playback Alarm Recording

A. Plan your home/office network topology
Write down your plan of the home/office network before starting to set up the surveillance system. Consider the following when doing so:

The IP address of the NAS
The IP address of the cameras
The IP address of your router and the wireless SSID

Your computer, the NAS, and the IP cameras should be installed to the same router in LAN. Assign fixed IP addresses for the NAS and the IP cameras. In this example,

The LAN IP of the router: 192.168.1.100
Camera 1 IP: 192.168.1.10 (fixed IP)
Camera 2 IP: 192.168.1.20 (fixed IP)
NAS IP: 192.168.1.60 (fixed IP)

B. Set up IP Camera
Configure the IP address of the two IP cameras by the following steps.

Take out the CD-ROM from the camera package and install the IPFinder.
The IPFinder is a utility that helps you search the IP address of the ICS-1013 camera. A user manual is included in the package. You can refer to the manual or the Advanced Guide in the CD-ROM for the operation of the camera.
Configure the IP address of the cameras
Connect the ICS-1013 IP camera to your home/office network with a network cable and run the IPFinder. Set the IP address of the cameras so that they are in the same LAN as the computer. You will then be able to login the configuration page of the camera with the IE browser. Enter the IP address of the first camera as 192.168.1.10. The default gateway should be set as the LAN IP of the router (192.168.1.100 in our example).
The default IP of ICS-1013 Camera: 192.168.0.30
The default login name and password of ICS-1013 camera are admin/ admin
Enter the web configuration page of the IP camera
The first time you access the configuration page by the IE browser, remember to install the ActiveX control. You will then be able to view the monitoring image.
Go to 'Network/ Network' and check the IP settings of the camera.

Next, go to 'Network/Wireless' and configure the wireless setting of the camera. You can use the Site Survey function to search the wireless SSID at home or office. Apply the settings and wait for the camera to restart. The camera's settings are done.

Repeat the above steps to set up the second camera.
To summarize, you have finished the following settings by now:

Camera 1 IP: 192.168.1.10 and the wireless network settings
Camera 2 IP: 192.168.1.20 and the wireless network settings

Tip: What if I forget the camera settings?
Press the reset button at the back of the camera for 5 to 10 seconds. The camera settings will be restored to default. You can then set the IP address and login the camera's configuration page by the default login name and password (admin/ admin).

C. Configure the Surveillance Station of the QNAP NAS

Note: The Surveillance Station is only supported on Internet Explorer 6.0 or above.

Install a hard disk to the NAS and finish initialization according to the Quick Installation Guide.
Make sure you have connected a computer and the NAS to the same LAN. Execute the QNAP Finder (the configuration utility provided by QNAP) to find your NAS in the LAN or enter http://NAS IP:8080/ in the IE browser directly to enter the server's administration page.
Click 'Administration' to enter the administration page. The default login name and password are both 'admin'.
Go to 'Network Settings' > 'TCP/IP Configuration'. Assign a fixed IP to the NAS: 192.168.1.60. The default gateway should be the same as the LAN IP of your router, which is 192.168.1.100 in our example.
Go to 'Network Settings' > 'Surveillance Station' to enable the Surveillance Station.
Enter the URL 'http://NAS IP:8080/Qrecordings' in the IE browser or click 'Surveillance Station' on the login page to enter the Surveillance Station.
Go to 'Settings>Camera Settings' page. Enter the camera information, e.g. name, model, and IP address. Enter the IP address of the two IP cameras. Camera 1: 192.168.1.10, Camera 2: 192.168.1.20. After the configuration, wait for the NAS to restart. You may enable continuous recording by checking the option 'Enable recording on this camera'.

Note: Before applying the settings, you may click 'Test' on the right to ensure the connection to the IP camera is successful.

You may enable the audio recording option of the camera in the 'Settings' > 'Recording Settings' page. Click 'Apply' to save the changes.
After you have added the network cameras to NAS, go to the 'Live View' page. The first time you access this page by IE browser, you have to install the ActiveX control in order to view the images of Camera 1 and Camera 2. You can start to use the monitoring and recording functions of the Surveillance Station!

Tip: When you click on the monitoring screen of a camera, the frame will become orange. You can use the buttons on the right panel to control the camera. For example, you can take a snapshot of the monitoring image, enable or disable manual recording, enable or disable audio function of the camera, use audio broadcast function, or enter the camera's configuration page.

D. Configure Schedule Recording on NAS

The Surveillance Station supports continuous recording and motion detection recording by schedule. To use this function, go to 'Settings' > 'Schedule Settings' in the Surveillance Station.

Select the camera you want to set. In the table, 0~23 represents the time period. For example, 0 means 00:00~01:00, 1 means 01:00~02:00. You can set continuous recording, motion detection recording, and not recording for each period.

You may set the schedule by one of the following ways:

Select "Continuous recording" (blue block) or "Motion detection recording" (red block), then click the blocks on the time table to mark the recording schedule.
Select "Continuous recording" or "Motion detection recording", check the boxes for weekdays (Sun to Sat), the select "All day or specify the time period. Click "Add" and the schedule will be applied to the time table.

After configuring the schedule, click "Apply" to save the settings to the camera you selected or click "Apply to all cameras" to apply the changes to all available cameras.

E. Playback Alarm Recording

To search for the alarm (motion detection) recording on NAS, go to the "Playback" page of the Surveillance Station.

Select the camera from the 'Video Channel' list. Click 'Alarm recording data only' to specify the recording type. Specify the date and time and click to start searching the alarm recording.

All the video data that match your searching criteria will show up on the playlist. You may play the video on the browser or download the video to your computer.

Inspired from the powerful software package management system in Linux (yum, dpkg, etc.), but unlike those running in the modern PCs today, QPKG is designed and fine-tuned for running on Linux embedded systems like NAS along with many popular software packages ready for install. QNAP NAS users may now enjoy these software applications developed by the community in a simple method just as easy as firmware update and no need to go through the complicated process.

So what is eMule (MLDonkey)? And how does it work on QNAP? Take a look at the scenario below.

MLDonkey is a door to the eMule world (also known as eDonkey), a multi-network, multi-platform open source P2P application used to exchange big files on the Internet and present most features of the basic Windows donkey client and additionally supports Overnet, Fasttrack, DirectConnect P2P (based on HUBs) and Bittorrent protocol. Below is the installation guide for MLDonkey on QNAP NAS via QPKG software package and a basic usage to get you started right away. Please note that firmware version 2.1.0 build 0530 onwards is required.

Step 1 - Install & Start MLDonkey via QPKG Platform
Go to 'System Tools' -> 'QPKG' and click 'Get QPKG' to get a list a currently available software packages. Choose the link that matches your NAS model to download the appropriate mldonkey.qpkg file.

Once downloaded first unzip the file archive then go to 'System Tools' -> 'System Update' and install the mldonkey.qpkg file the same way as if you were updating the system firmware.

Upon successful installation you should see a QPKG entry like the screen below. Now click 'Enable' to start the MLDonkey service. Once you see the status becomes 'Enabled' you may continue to the next step. Please note that the default username and password for MLDonkey is admin/admin.

Before you start using MLDonkey you will have to forward 2 ports for incoming connections from other clients in order to gain better connection rate. QNAP has default this port to 15000 (TCP) and 15004 (UDP), and users should ensure forwarding both ports on your router to the internal IP address of your NAS that's running the MLDonkey. If you are unsure whether or not these ports are forwarded properly you may go to this site and enter your WAN IP to test them.

Step 2 - Download, Install & Configure Sancho

Download the latest stable version (0.9.4-58) for:

Windows (XP, Vista, Requires Java Virtual Machine)
MacOSX - Carbon (10.3+, Requires Java Virtual Machine)
Linux - GTK (Requires Java Virtual Machine)

(The guide below will be based on Windows installation)
Once downloaded double-click the setup file and install as normal Windows software installation. After successful installation start the program and first of all you will be taken through a few steps for configuration. Now you should see a setup screen like below. Click 'Next' to continue.

Simply ignore this step and click 'Next' to continue.

Configure the required settings according to the suggestions in red. Note that the default username/password is admin / admin.

If you can see the NAS IP address at the top you are now connected to the MLDonkey.

Now go to the 'Servers' tab, you need to first connect to some servers if it did not do it for you automatically.

You may now fire some searches and start filling up your 'Transfer' list.

If you reach this step successfully, Congratulations! You've just turned your NAS into eMule/eDonkey downloader! You may shut down your PCs at any time for the same purpose.

HOW TO SET UP NFS ON QNAP PRO SERIES NAS WITH TVIX HD-VIDEO PLAYER

Preface
High-definition (HD) has become a trend in TV, video, and film production. More and more consumers are moving to HD plasma and LCD TV. HD media player is also a must-have appliance for modern home. Now, you can use QNAP NAS to save all these HD video sources and set up a digital home multimedia center with digital media adaptor (DMA).

QNAP Turbo NAS series adopts energy-saving and is designed to work like an electric home appliance. Step by Step Instruction

This article introduces how to use the NFS function of QNAP NAS with network media player to set up a digital home centre.

Demo NAS:

NAS Configuration (QNAP TS-409 Pro)

Step 1
On QNAP TS-409-Pro plug one end of the network cable into the Ethernet port located on the back of the NAS and the other end to your existing network router. By default, the unit should obtain an IP address automatically. Start QNAP Finder to detect and locate your NAS, simply double-click it to bring up the administration web page. Now, log in to the NAS with your admin username and password.

Step 2
Go to 'Network Settings' > 'NFS Service'. Check the box 'Enable NFS Service' and click 'Apply' to confirm. Next follow the link says 'Click here to set the NFS access right of the network share' to proceed.

Step 3
Select the network share you wish to configure the NFS access rights (Qmultimedia for this example) then click 'NFS Access Control'.

Choose 'Read only' for the 'Access right' and simply leave the 'Allowed IP address or domain name' with the '*' (wildcard) as it is. However, please read the notes underneath it for further information if you intend to put restriction on the NFS shares to only allow access from those with either IP address or domain names listed in here. Otherwise click 'OK' and your done. Repeat Step 3 to configure more shares if required.

High Definition Video Player Configuration (TViX HD M-5100SH)

Step 1
Connect the TViX player to the same network router and in this tutorial we use HDMI as the video output so connect your HDMI cable as seen in the picture. Now power on your TV, the TViX HD player and you should see the screen as below. Use the remote to go to the 'SETUP' page.

Step 2
From the 'NETWORK' tab on the SETUP page we will first make sure that the unit has got assigned an IP address by navigating to 'TViX Network Info' then based on your connection method choose 'Wired Info' or 'Wi-Fi Info' and whether you use static IP assignment or dynamic DHCP IP assignment.

Step 3
If the Network Info looks fine to you, next we will setup the Network Disk using NFS. Navigate to 'Network Disk 1' and press 'OK' on the remote then choose 'Normal (NFS)' option to bring up the pop-up where we can enter the NFS share information.

Now use the remote control key pad to enter the 'Server Name' as 'Qmultimedia' which we have enabled the NFS service on in step 3. Enter the IP address of the NAS which is 10.8.12.15 in our case for the 'Server IP' field. If you ever happen to want to use your own share on the NAS repeat step 3 and make sure you have configured the 'NFS Access Control' as 'Read only' then after that simply type in the share name as the 'Server Name' here.

Please note that even though our example IP is 10.8.12.15, you will have to add the leading '0' as seen above. Once you've done this press 'OK' on the remote and go to 'EXIT' to save the configurations you made.

Step 4
Go to 'Video' page and go to 'Network Disk 1' as shown below and you should see the contents in the Qmultimedia folder on the NAS.

Now you can start browsing all the high definition contents stored on QNAP TS-409-Pro NAS using the fast and the best method to establish the link in between.

High Definition Video Player Configuration (PIXEL MAGIC HD Mediabox)

Step 1
Connect the Pixel Magic HD Mediabox to the same network router. In this tutorial we use HDMI as the video output, so connect your HDMI cable. Now power on your TV, the HD Mediabox player and you should see the screen as below. Use the remote to go to the 'SETUP' page.

Step 2
From the 'System' tab on the SETUP page we will again first make sure that the unit has got assigned an IP address by navigating to 'IP Settings' then based on your IP address assignment method choose 'DHCP' or 'Static'. In this tutorial we use DHCP and so we can see that we have successfully obtained an IP address as shown in the red rectangle below which is '10.8.12.31'.

Step 3
Next we will setup the NFS share mapping function. From the same page navigate to 'IP Settings' then 'NFS' and press 'OK' on the remote then it should bring up the 'NFS Settings' popup as shown below where you can enter the NFS share information.

Now use the remote control key pad to enter '/Qmultimedia' in the field 'Folder' (note to add the slash '/'). Next, enter the IP address of the NAS which is 10.8.12.15 in our case for the field 'IP. If you ever happen to want to use your own share created on the NAS repeat step 3 in Configuration of NAS and make sure you have configured the 'NFS Access Control' as 'Read only' then after that simply type in the share name for the 'Folder' field here.

Please note that even though our example IP is 10.8.12.15 however you will have to add the leading '0' as seen above. Once you've done this press 'Add' on the remote then press 'SETUP' key again to save the configurations you made.

Step 4
Go to 'File browser' page and go to 'Network (NFS)' as shown below and make sure that the 'Display type' is either set to 'All' or 'Video' just to make sure we can see all the videos on the NAS in this tutorial.

Press the 'OK' button on remote to select the NFS share that you have just added.

Now you can start browsing all the high definition contents stored on QNAP TS-409-Pro NAS using the fast and the best method to establish the link in between.

Installation Instructions
If you have never installed Joomla! before, you can let QNAP NAS install the Joomla! package automatically by upgrading the NAS firmware. The installation procedure is absolutely simple and easy.

Please refer to the steps below for the first time Joomla! installation:

Prerequisites: Firmware v1.1.5 or above (You can check the firmware version from the QNAP Finder)
Demo target: QNAP TS-109 Pro

Step 1
Start QNAP Finder. Locate your NAS and double-click on it to bring up the administration web page. You can check the firmware version down at the bottom of the page too.

Step 2
Login the administration page and then go to 'Network Settings' > 'Web Server'. Check the box 'php.ini Maintenance' and select 'Restore' from the dropdown menu. Then click the 'Restore' button on the right. Restart the server for the changes to take effect. You can achieve this simply by disabling the option 'Enable Web server' and enable it again.

Step 3
Go to 'Network Settings' > 'MySQL Server'. Check the options 'Enable MySQL Server' and 'Enable TCP/IP Networking', and click 'Apply'.

Ok, we have now enabled the web server and MySQL database server. Let's begin the Installation of Joomla! by clicking on the link http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/Joomla/ on 'Network Settings' > 'Web Server' page (where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx denotes the IP address of your NAS).

Step 4
First choose the language to use during the installation of Joomla! and click 'Next'.

Step 5
The pre-installation check should return Yes on all the settings required so simply click 'Next' to continue.

Step 6
On the Database Configuration page under Basic Settings configure as below:

*Please note that the default user name and password is root / admin.

Step 7
The FTP Configuration is optional so you can choose to either configure the settings as below or simply click Next to continue.

*Please note that the default FTP user name and password is admin / admin.

Step 8
Enter the Site Name you'd like along with your contact E-mail and Admin Password as below. First time users or beginners are recommended to install the Sample Data in order to get some ideas. Once done simply click Next to continue to the last step.

Step 9
If you can see the screen as below we're almost there! One more thing before it's done we have to remove the installation folder on the Joomla! root directory.

If you have previously mounted the Qweb share directory in the Windows please go to the directory where you just installed your Joomla!. In my case it will be under Qweb > Joomla. Please delete or remove the installation directory before you can start using Joomla!.

Step 10
Now point your web browser to the address below and you should see the following page. http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/Joomla/ (where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. denotes your NAS IP address).

For Joomla! Administration just go to: http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/Joomla/administrator/ (where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. denotes your NAS IP address) and enter your admin user name and password. (default: admin / admin)

The Challenge of Modern Business
The biggest challenge facing the modern business today is to select and set up a truly reliable network-attached storage server to save and share important data securely and to increase the work efficiency of different departments. Meanwhile, it is also important to set up a reliable backup policy to reduce the risk of data loss.

This application note demonstrates different scenarios (take NAS user Jeffrey for example) and the steps to use the powerful Online RAID Capacity Expansion and Online RAID Level Migration, and how the user benefits from the powerful expansion function.

Case 1: Online RAID Capacity Expansion

Jeffrey invested four 250GB hard drives for initial setup of TS-409 Pro and configured RAID 5 disk configuration with the four drives.
A half year later, the data size of the department has largely increased to 1.5 TB. In other words, the storage capacity of TS-409 Pro is running out of use. At the same time, the price of 1TB hard drives has dropped to a large extent.

Online RAID Capacity Expansion enables users to expand the storage capacity of RAID without turning off the server. Jeffrey can expand the current logical volume of RAID 5 from 750GB storage capacity to 3TB.

Execute the RAID Expansion function. Replace the 250GB hard drives with 1TB ones step by step.
Then expand the capacity of the logical volume.

Operation procedure:
Step 1
In Device Configuration/ RAID Management tool page, select the drive volume for expansion and click Expand capacity.

Step 2
Click [Replace] for the first hard drive to be replaced. Follow the instructions to proceed.

Tips: After replacing the hard drives, the description field shows the message "You can replace this drive". This means you can replace the hard drive to a larger one or skip this step if the hard drives have been replaced already.
Caution: When the hard drive synchronization is in process, do NOT turn off the NAS or plug/ unplug the hard drives.

Step 3
When the description displays "Please remove this drive", remove the hard drive from the NAS. Wait for the NAS to beep twice after removing the hard drive.

Step 4
When the description displays "Please insert the new drive", insert the new drive to the drive slot.

Step 5
After inserting the hard drive, wait for the NAS to beep. The system starts rebuilding.

Step 6
After rebuilding finishes, follow steps 2-5 to replace other hard drive(s).

Step 7
After changing the hard drives and rebuilding completes, you can click [Expand capacity] to execute RAID expansion.

Click OK to proceed.

The NAS beeps and starts to expand the capacity.

Step 8
The process may take from hours to tens of hours to finish depending on the drive size. Please wait patiently for the process to finish. Do NOT turn off the power of NAS.

Step 9
After RAID expansion is finished, the new capacity is shown and the status is Ready. You can start to use the larger capacity. (In the example you got 3TB logical volume)

Tips: The description still shows "You can replace this hard drive". If the drive volume is Ready, you can perform RAID expansion.

Case 2: Online RAID Level Migration

During the initial setup of TS-409 Pro, Jeffrey invested a 1TB hard drive and configured it as Single Disk mode. The TS-409 Pro is used as a file server for data sharing among the department.
After a half year, more and more important data are saved on TS-409 Pro. There is a rising concern for hard drive crash and data loss. Therefore, Jeffrey planned to upgrade the disk configuration to RAID 5.

Online RAID Level Migration enables users to install one hard drive for setting up TS-409 Pro and migrate the RAID redundancy level in the future to increase data protection. The migration process can be done without turning off the server. All the original data retained.

Prepare hard drives of the same or larger capacity as an existing drive in the RAID configuration.
Execute RAID Migration (Migrate the system from Single Disk mode to RAID 5 with 4 hard drives)

Step 1
Go to Device Configuration/ SATA Disk page. The current disk volume configuration displayed on the page is Single Disk (the capacity is 1TB).

Step 2
Insert the new hard drives of 1TB capacity to drive slots 2, 3, and 4 of NAS. The NAS system will detect the new hard disks. The status of the new disks is "Unmounted".

Step 3
In Device Configuration/ RAID Management Tool page, select the drive configuration for migration and click Migrate to proceed.

Step 4
Select one or more available drives and the migration method. The drive capacity after migration is shown. Click Migrate to proceed.

Note that all the data on the selected drives will be cleared. Click OK to confirm.

Step 5
When migration is in process, the required time and total drive capacity after migration are shown in the description field.

Please note: The NAS system will enter "read only" mode when the migration is in process during 11%~49% to assure the data of RAID configuration will be consistent after the RAID migration completes.

Step 6
After migration completes, the new drive configuration is shown (RAID 5 now) and the status is Ready. You can start to use the new drive configuration.

The process may take from hours to tens of hours to finish depending on the drive size. You can connect to the web page of NAS to check the status later.

Case 3: Use Online RAID Capacity Expansion and Online RAID Level Migration together

Jeffrey had a tight schedule to set up the file server and FTP server. However, he had only one 250GB hard drive. Therefore, he set up the TS-409 Pro with the Single Disk configuration.
The original plan was to set up a 3TB RAID 5 network data center with TS-409 Pro.
Jeffrey now planned to migrate the disk configuration of TS-409 Pro to RAID 5 and expand the total storage capacity to 3TB with all the original data retained after the hard drives are purchased.

Execute Online RAID Level Migration to migrate the system from Single Disk to RAID 5. The total storage capacity will be 750GB of RAID 5. (With one 250GB drive and three 1TB drives, the disk usage will be 250GB*4 for RAID 5.)
PS: You can refer to the Case 2 for detailed operation procedure.
Execute Online RAID Capacity Expansion, to replace the 250GB drive with a new 1TB drive, and then expand the logical volume from 750GB to 3TB of RAID 5.

A. Play music on NAS by Sony PSP wirelessly
Wireless music playing via PSP is available with QNAP Turbo Station series: TS-101, TS-201, and TS-109 & TS-209 series. With the built-in TwonkyMedia function of Turbo Station series, PSP gamers can freely access the music contents on NAS and play the files on the PSP. This application demonstrates how your Turbo Station and PSP can be the best wireless music playing partners.

Configure UPnP MediaServer on Turbo Station:
Login the administration page of Turbo Station. Enter "Network Settings> Multimedia Station" page.

Check the box "Enable UPnP Media Server" and enable the option under UPnP MediaServer. Click "Apply".

Click on UPnP Media Server link (port 9000) http://TurboStation IP:9000/, you will enter TwonkyMedia configuration page. You can set up the contents you would like to share in your home network. Configure the music tree and save your changes.

Save the music files to the Qmultimedia folder or any specified folders on the Turbo Station for PSP to play.

Use PSP to play the music files on Turbo Station:

Connect your PSP to your local wireless network. On the PSP main home menu, go to "Internet Browser" under the Network panel.
Enter this address in the browser: http://QNAP NAS IP:9000/RSS (9000 is the service port of TwonkyMedia), e.g., if your Turbo Station IP is 192.168.1.88, enter http://192.168.1.88:9000/rss.
When the connection is successfully established, the music navigation tree you defined on the TwonkyMedia page of NAS is shown. Click on the RSS feeds you want to subscribe to.
Select "Yes" to add the channel.
After adding the RSS feeds, you can go to "RSS Channel" in Network section.
All the music contents that match the selected feeds are displayed. You can start to play the music from your PSP!

B. Play multimedia contents on QNAP NAS on media player remotely by Nokia N95
If you are a Nokia N95 owner, you can use your phone as a remote control and play or show the multimedia contents on QNAP Turbo Station on an available media player on the network. After enabling UPnPMedia Server function on QNAP NAS, import the pictures, music, or video files on NAS shared folders. Then follow the steps below to use N95 to play the files on a media player on the network.

Go to "Settings/ Home netw./ Share content", and turn on "Share content".
Connect N95 to WLAN (wireless LAN) and search for QNAP Turbo Station on the network. Make sure they are in the same local network.
Browse the multimedia files on the Qmultimedia or specified folder of QNAP NAS with N95.
Select the music, video, or picture to play. Select "Show via home network" (images or video) or "Play via home network" (music).
Browse and select a media player (UPnP) in the network. You can then use N95 as a remote control and play/ show the files via the media player.

Note: N95 does not support playing the multimedia files on QNAP NAS directly.

About RAID 1
RAID 1 disk mirroring provides highly secure data protection. You can use two hard drives of the same capacity to create a RAID 1 array. The RAID 1 creates an exact copy of data on the member drives. RAID 1 protects data against single drive failure. The usable capacity of RAID 1 is the capacity of the smallest member drive. It is particularly suitable for personal or company use for important data saving.

Logical volume status when RAID 1 operates normally
When RAID 1 operates normally, the volume status is shown as Ready in the Current Disk Volume Configuration section.

When a drive fails, follow the steps below to check the drive status:

The server beeps for 1.5 sec twice when the drive fails.
The Status LED flashes red continuously.
Check the Current Disk Volume Configuration section. The volume status is In degraded mode.
You can check the error and warning messages for drive failure and disk volume in degraded mode respectively in the Event Logs.

Install a new drive to rebuild RAID 1 by hot swapping

Please follow the steps below to hot swap the failed hard drive:

Prepare a new hard drive to rebuild RAID 1. The capacity of the new drive should be at least the same as that of the failed drive.
Insert the drive to the drive slot of the server. The server beeps for 1.5 seconds twice. The Status LED flashes red and green alternatively.
Check the Current Disk Volume Configuration section. The volume status is Rebuilding and the progress is shown.
When the rebuilding is completed, the Status LED lights in green and the volume status is Ready. RAID 1 mirroring protection is now active.
You can check the disk volume information in the Event Logs.

Note: Do not install the new drive when the system is not yet in degraded mode to avoid unexpected system failure.

Note:	Please go to www.qnap.com to download the new firmware* with built-in phpMyAdmin. Then upgrade your server with the new firmware. You can go to administration/ System Tools/ System Update to update the firmware or refer to the user manual for the firmware upgrade details.
* TS-109/209 firmware v1.1.0 build 0830 or later versions support built-in phpMyAdmin function.

Chapter I. Enable Web server and MySQL on your Turbo Station

First, enable web server and MySQL server. You can then use the builtin MySQL management tool- phpMyAdmin.

Make sure your Turbo Station is ready.
You can use QNAP Finder to configure Turbo Station step by step. Then, login Turbo Station.
Make sure Web Server and MySQL Server are enabled.
Follow the steps below to enable MySQL Server.
A. Go to Web Server of Network Settings, enable the Web Server function and input your SMTP Server. You can also enable SMTP authentication for your mail server when necessary.

B. Go to MySQL Server of Network Settings and enable MySQL Server.

Note: If you do not find the phpMyAdmin link on MySQL Server page, please go to www.qnap.com to download the NAS firmware with built-in phpMyAdmin. Then upgrade your server with the new firmware.
Access MySQL server by phpMyAdmin
A. Go to the built-in phpMyAdmin page http://"Turbo Station IP Address"/phpMyAdmin/ (phpMyAdmin is the default folder name in Qweb); and enter the user name and password to login. You can also select your local language.

B. After login successfully, you can enter the phpMyAdmin management page as shown below.

Chapter II. Manage MySQL database by phpMyAdmin

After login phpMyAdmin, you should know how to change the root password, create a database, and add users to the database.

Change root password
Change your root password to secure your database as shown below.
A. Click in phpMyAdmin management page to edit Privileges of root.

B. Click to edit the password of root in localhost. Click to save the changes. You should use the new password to login afterwards.
Add a database user
You can create a database user for specific database and define the privileges of the user.
A. Click in phpMyAdmin management. Then, click "Add a new User".

B. Input the user information. Then, click to complete.

Note1: regarding Host:
There are four options when you click on the drop-down menu of "Host", which are Any Host, Local, user host table, use text field. Any host shows the default setting "%"; Local shows the default setting "localhost"; user host table allows users to enter IP address or domain name. For general use, "localhost" is recommended, because "localhost" is only for connection of this NAS server. If you choose user host table and input IP address or domain name, that means this user can access the server remotely from that IP address or domain name.
Note2: Do not check all items in Global privileges unless you want to use this new user account instead of "root".
Add a database
A. Input a database name, e.g., phpbb as shown below. Click to create a database.

B. The database has been created on the list.
Configure database user in a database
A. Click to return to phpMyAdmin homepage. Then click to edit user's privileges.

B. Click to edit the privileges of the dbmaster. Find the "Database-specific privileges".

C. Select the database, e.g., phpbb. The next page is shown automatically.

D. Select privileges for data, structure, and administration. Then, click to complete.

Note: For common use, it is recommended to check the "Data" and "Structure" items in Database-specific privileges.
When you have successfully set a user's privileges for this database, the following message is shown.

Chapter III. Install PHP + MySQL forum on Turbo Station

Right now, you can easily build a PHP+MySQL forum on Turbo Station, e.g., phpbb. Let's use phpBB for practice below.

Upload phpBB Files
A. You should download the phpBB program first. You can download it directly from this URL: http://jaist.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/phpbb/phpBB-2.0.22.zip. If you want to know more information or download other versions, please refer to http://www.phpbb.com.

B. Create a folder under the "Qweb" network share folder, e.g., phpbb. Extract the downloaded files to the folder, e.g., Qweb/phpbb via FTP as shown below.

C. Make sure the permissions of the Qweb/phpbb/config.php file is "read" and "write". You can configure the permission by FTP or SAMBA (My Network Places).
Install Your phpBB
A. Go to the phpBB Page in http://"QNAP NAS server IP Address"/phpbb/ (phpbb is the name of the folder created to upload all extracted phpBB files) and install it. Input all the necessary information, and click .

B. Click "Finish Installation".

C. After installation completes, delete or rename the /Qweb/phpbb/install/ and /Qweb/phpbb/contrib/ directories.

Set up Turbo Station in a few simple steps

Install a hard disk to Turbo Station and finish initialization according to the Quick Installation Guide.

Make sure you have connected a PC and Turbo Station to the same LAN. Execute QNAP Finder (the configuration utility provided by QNAP) to find your QNAP Turbo Station in LAN to enter Turbo Station's web administration page.

The server will pop up a window and prompt for user name and password. (TS-109 and TS-209's default user name: admin, password: admin).

It is recommended to assign a fixed IP to Turbo Station. (Since you may need to open the ports of some services on your NAT router and forward them to the fixed IP address of Turbo Station.) Go to Network Settings>TCP/IP Configuration. If your gateway address is 192.168.1.1, you can assign a fixed IP to Turbo Station, e.g. 192.168.1.34, and set the subnet mask as 255.255.255.0. Note that the LAN IP of Turbo Station should be in the same LAN of the NAT router.

B. Setting up a file server manually
Step-by-step configuration:

Enter the administration page of Turbo Station:
Click Administration to enter the administration page.

Enable Web File Manager

Go to Web File Manager page in Network Settings.
Check the box "Enable Web File Manager" and click Apply. After successful activation, you can access the data via web browser by the link http://Turbo Station IP:8080/Qfilemanager/.

Enable Microsoft Networking
Go to Microsoft Networking in Network Settings.
Check the option "Enable file service for Microsoft Network" and click Apply. You can then access the data in Windows OS.
If there are Apple users, you can enable Apple Talk file service in Apple Networking page.
Create users, user groups, network share folders and assign the folder access right
After logging in the administration page, you can go to User Management and create user groups, add or delete users, and change the login password. You can also create particular network shares for each user.
You can go to Network Share Management to create a share folder and define the folder access right (including full access, read only and deny access).

Example:

In User Management, click User Groups on the left. Then select Create. Add a user group "Sales".

Add a user "Shawn" and enter the password for Shawn.

Add Shawn to the user group Sales.

You will find that all these configurations can be done via web browser.

When the above account and folder settings are completed, you can send an e-mail to inform every user to use the file server.
Inform users to change password:

<1> Inform everyone the http link of Turbo Station administration page by e-mail, e.g. http://192.168.1.34:8080/
<2> The users can click "Change Password" on the administration page and configure their own password.

Everyone can add their own network drive

<1> You can tell every user the LAN IP of Turbo Station e.g.\\192.168.1.34 (note that back slash should be used). They can add and open the network drive in My Network Places or enter the link in web browser to access the network folders you share on Turbo Station.

<2> Everyone can select their own folder, right click the folder and select "Map Network Drive".

<3> Select a drive letter for the network share. Enter the password to access the folder.

After mapping the network drive, the network share will appear in My Computer (as shown below). You can drag and drop, or copy and paste to upload and download the data.

By now you have set up your own file server. Everyone can have their personal and group network shares for file backup and sharing.

C. Set up backup mechanism for everyone
Turbo Station provides a powerful Windows backup software- NetBak Replicator for you back up important data on computer to the network shares on Turbo Station. Other users can download this software on their computers to use its powerful backup functions.
Create schedule backup
(1) Select backup files
Select the important files you want to back up, e.g. email, contacts, PowerPoint and click "Save Configuration File" button to save your backup settings as an rpr file. The rpr file will record the backup directories. When you need to back up next time, you can simply load the rpr file to apply the same backup settings.

- - To execute backup, click "Start". The selected files will be backed up to the specified folders on Turbo Station immediately.
  - You can create your schedule backup, e.g. 12:00 daily to let NetBak Replicator back up data automatically.

Click New to create a new replication job. You can create different jobs to back up different data to different network shares on Turbo Station.

Enter the destination folder and login information, e.g. Office/RD1, user name: user01, password: 12345). The user name and password must be valid to login the remote Turbo Station. Then select the backup schedule, e.g. daily, weekly and the time. Turbo Station will execute remote replication according to the schedule. Click OK to save the settings.

Turbo Station will back up the data to remote Turbo Station according to your schedule for enhanced data protection. Turbo Station lets you enjoy the value-plus and advanced enterprise functions!

Note that to back up the data on Turbo Station to a remote Turbo Station from WAN and if the local Turbo Station is placed behind a NAT router, please forward the port 873(Rsync port), port 445, and port 137~139 (Samba port for authentication) to the local Turbo Station.

DDNS (Users using fixed IP for Internet connection might not need this service)

Most ISP will provide one or more dynamic public IP for Internet connection. (This applies to the situation that the IP sharing router acquires WAN IP from ISP by PPPoE or DHCP connection.) To set up a server, a fixed IP address or URL is necessary so that users can easily recall the server address to connect to. When a dynamic IP address is used, you can use a DDNS supported IP sharing router with Turbo Station or use Turbo Station's DDNS function, and register an easy-to-remember address from DDNS provider to identify Turbo Station on the Internet, e.g. myTurboStation.dyndns.org.
If you are using your Turbo Station without being behind an NAT router, you can also configure to use the DDNS function on Turbo Station.

Port Forwarding

If your Turbo Station is located behind the NAT router, you need to open the ports of some services on the NAT router and forward these ports to the fixed LAN IP of Turbo Station. This function is available on most routers in the market and is often known as "Port Forwarding", "NAT Server" or "Virtual Server". Take BitTorrent download function as an example, you have to forward the port range of BitTorrent service to the LAN IP of Turbo Station, e.g. forward port range 6881~6999 to 192.168.1.34. When your NAT router receives external port 6881~6999 packets at WAN side, the router will forward these packets to the LAN IP of Turbo Station. Moreover, to connect to the Turbo Station at home from WAN, you can simply open port 8080 (the TS-109 and TS-209's default management port; or port 6000 of TS-101, TS-201, or TS-100) and forward the port to the LAN IP of Turbo Station.

PS: Some NAT routers provide DMZ settings. You can forward LAN IP address specified by DMZ to Turbo Station. When this setting is used, all ports from WAN to LAN will be forwarded to Turbo Station.

Turbo Station's Download Station function supports UPnP NAT Port Forwarding of BT download. If your NAT router supports UPnP, you can enable UPnP on NAT. Turbo Station can then automatically notify NAT router to open the corresponding ports when performing BT download. There is no need to enter the port range for BT download on NAT router by enabling this option.

PS: Some NAT routers provide DMZ settings. You can forward LAN IP address specified by DMZ to Turbo Station. When this setting is used, all ports from WAN to LAN will be forwarded to Turbo Station.

After completing these two settings, you can connect to the Turbo Station at home from the Internet via http://myTurboStation.dyndns.org:8080/ and manage the server.

C. Step-by-Step Configuration of Download Station

Enter the administration page of Turbo Station:
Click Administration to enter the administration page.

Enable Download Station
Go to Download Station in Network settings.
Check the box "Enable Download Station" and click Apply. Download Station is then activated.

Configure Download Station
After enabling Download Station, you can click on the link http://Turbo Station IP:8080/Qdownload/ to enter Download Station page.

Click Set Config.

- The maximum number of downloads at the same time is 10. We recommend that you set 3 or less as the concurrent sessions for this setting for faster download performance.
- Set maximum download and upload rates.
- The port range is the port numbers used by BT download. If your NAT router supports UPnP, it is recommended that you enable "UPnP NAT port forwarding" or open the port range on NAT router manually. For example, forward ports 6881~6999 to the LAN IP of Turbo Station: 192.168.1.34.

D. Add a BT task

- - You can search for the torrents you need on the Internet, e.g. http://www.bittorrent.com/. In this example, we selected a Casper cartoon. Click Download to download the torrent file.

- - Go to Download Station page and add a BT task. Select the torrent file you have just downloaded.

- - After you add a torrent, the task and the download status will be shown in the View Run List.

- - When the download task completes, the task will be moved to Finish List and the downloaded file(s) will be saved in Qdownload folder on Turbo Station. The system will generate a folder named after the torrent file in this network share. You can access the downloaded file(s) via My Network Places or FTP.

- - You can click on the file to view the video.

Some files may be very large in size, esp. video files, and the download time will be relatively longer. You can let Turbo Station finish the download independent of computer. You can access Turbo Station to manage the download tasks from the web anytime, anywhere.

Many of us may acquire mp3 files and digital video files by downloading from the Internet, sharing among friends, capturing home videos on our cam coders, or converting files from CD. Besides playing the files by computer directly, there are better ways to enjoy these digital contents. DLNA DMP (Digital Media Player) devices are now popular in the market. With DMP, we do not need to play music or view pictures on the computer. These digital contents can be transferred from PC to a DMP device, and then to output into the stereo acoustic system or TV via the network. For instance, the mp3 files in the computer can be played by your HiFi. You can play movies or digital pictures on your LCD TV.
The application is illustrated as below:

For this application, you have to install the software provided by the DMP manufacturer on your computer and connect to the LAN, your PC can become an UPnP DMS (Digital Media Server). C. How to Set Up Your NAS and DMP

Install a hard disk to Turbo Station and finish initialization according to the Quick Installation Guide.
Make sure you have connected a PC and Turbo Station to the same LAN. Execute QNAP Finder (the configuration utility provided by QNAP) to find your QNAP Turbo Station in LAN or enter http://Turbo Station IP:8080/ (8080 is the default configuration port of TS-109 series, for TS-101 or TS-201 please use port 6000) in the web browser directly to enter Turbo Station's administration page.

Click "Administration" to enter the administration page.
Enter "Network Settings> Multimedia Station" page and check the box "Enable UPnP Media Server".

When you check the box "Enable UPnP Media Server" and click Apply, the function is ready to use! The UPnP Media Server is activated immediately.

When you click on UPnP Media Server link (port 9000) http://TurboStation IP:9000/, you will enter TwonkyMedia configuration page. You can customize the settings on this page. (TwonkyMedia Server is available on TS-109, TS-209, TS-101 and TS-201)
- You can select the display language in configuration pages.
- Enter the name of the UPnP Media Server of Turbo Station. This name will be displayed on the operation interface of DMP.
- In Content Locations, you can select the folders to be shared to DMP (default folder is Qmultimedia). In the example, we added the directories /Qmultimedia and /Qdonwload.

The contents on Turbo Station will be displayed on your DMP according to your settings. When you have completed configuration, make sure you have clicked the button Save Changes to save the settings.

You can move the mp3, pictures or video to Qmultimedia folder or any specified folders on Turbo Station for DMP to play. You can upload the files by My Network Places in Windows (Key in the path in your browser: \\192.168.1.34\ to access to the folder) or by FTP. Turbo Station will be shared on the network.

D. Set up the Connections of Your DMP
The following example introduces how to install your DMP device:

D-1. Connect your DMP to local LAN.

About physical wiring:

DMP is used to receive the streamed multimedia file sent by your UPnP Media server on NAS, then transcode these files to your TV or Hi-Fi system to play. Because of the limited cable length of these interfaces, normally you have to place your DMP near your TV and Hi-Fi system. Better to have an Ethernet connector near your TV, otherwise you need to use DMP's wireless connection to access to home network.

About TCP/IP settings:

Simply connect your DMP device to the LAN at your home and set to acquire the IP address by DHCP. (Most of the DMP devices are defined as DHCP client, it will automatically be assigned an IP address when connect to your home network)

D-2. Connect video and audio output of DMP to your TV.
There might be different video and audio interfaces provided by DMP devices, such as Composite video/audio output, S-Video for video output, S/PDIF digital audio, or the latest HDMI interface which can carry both video and audio signals.

Example of Installing DMP Devices
The built-in TwonkyMedia UPnP Media Server on TS-109 is compatible with lots of DLNA DMP devices in the market. Check the compatibility list in TwonkyVision's website. http://www.twonkyvision.com/Products/TwonkyMedia/devices.html.

- Example 1 (Buffalo LinkTheater is used).
In this example, the video out and audio out cables are connected to the TV. You can also connect audio out to your stereo acoustic system.

Turn on the TV that is connected to the DMP, you can select the options available by the remote control of the DMP. The DMP will find Turbo Station on the network. An option "My TS-109" will be displayed on the screen.

You will find the photos, video and music shared by the specified folder on Turbo Station. You can use the DMP remote control to select and play the files.

HDMI interface start to appear in some DMP devices. ZyXEL DMA-1000W is one of the models which are based on SigmaDesigns' platform. (At the time of writing, ZyXEL's DMA-1000W is in beta phase)

If there is HDMI interface provided on your TV, both audio and video signals can be carried by the single cable. Simply connect your DMP to your TV by using HDMI cable.

If you don't have HDMI interface available on the TV, you can also connect S-Video cable to your TV for video output, and connect Composite left/right audio interface for audio output. If you demand higher quality of music, you can connect by using S/PDIF cable to your HiFi system.

- Turn on and switch your TV to the selective interface (e.g. HDMI or S-Video).
- Use your remote of the DMP. Select to enter the "Server" page, you will find your Turbo Station is automatically found by your DMP.

You can then select to enjoy the videos or photos on your TV, also to play your MP3 music or Internet Radio streamed from your Turbo Station.

Vedr. software, hvis du bruger et Windows-baseret OS, kan du vælge mellem nogle populære FTP server-software-pakker, f.eks. Server-U. Men... du vil være nødt til, at købe en licens til denne software og bruge tid på, at installere og lære om konfiguration og daglig anvendelse af softwaren. Hvis du foretrækker en mere stabil og billigere løsning, kan du dog installere et Linux OS på din PC og bruge FTP server funktionen i Linux.

A. Opsætning af din Turbo Station i få, simple trin

Installer en hard disk i din Turbo Station og fuldfør initialiseringen i overensstemmelse med Quick Installation Guiden.
Du skal sikre dig, at du har forbundet en PC og din Turbo Station til det samme LAN (Local Area Network - på dansk: Lokal-netværk). Eksekvér QNAP Finder (konfigurations metoden, der leveres af QNAP) til, at finde din QNAP Turbo Station i dit LAN så du kan tilgå Turbo Station's web administrations-side.

Serveren vil starte et pop up vindue og spørge efter brugernavn og password.
(TS-109 og TS-209's default brugernavn: admin, password: admin).
Det anbefales at benytte en fast IP-adresse til din Turbo Station. (Fordi du kan få behov for, at åbne porte til nogle services på din NAT router og forwarde disse til den faste IP adresse på din Turbo Station.) Gå til Network Settings>TCP/IP Configuration. Hvis din gateway adresse er 192.168.1.1, kan du bestemme en fast IP til din Turbo Station, eksempelvis 192.168.1.34, og indstille subnet mask til 255.255.255.0. Bemærk, at LAN IP på din Turbo Station skal efinde sig i det samme LAN på NAT routeren.

B. Afslut indstillingen af dine IP sharing router settings (DDNS og port forwarding indstillinger)

De fleste Internet-udbydere stiller en eller flere dynamiske IP-adresser til rådighed for din Internet-forbindelse. For, at opsætte en server, er det nødvendigt, at have en fast IP-adresse, så brugere nemt kan vende tilbage til server adressen. Når en dynamisk IP adresse anvendes, kan du bruge en DDNS understøttet IP sharing router med din Turbo Station eller anvende din Turbo Station's DDNS funktion, og registere en adresse, der er nem, at huske fra en DDNS udbyder, til, at identificere din Turbo Station på Internettet, som f.eks. minTurboStation.dyndns.org.
Anvender du din Turbo Station uden, at befinde dig "bag" en NAT router, kan du også konfigurere den til, at bruge DDNS funktionen på din Turbo Station.
Port Forwarding
Er din Turbo Station placeret bagved NAT routeren, er det nødvendigt, at du åbner portene til nogle services på NAT routeren, og forwarder disse til den faste LAN IP-adresse på din Turbo Station. PS: Nogle NAT routere indeholder DMZ settings. Du kan forwarde LAN IP adressen, der specificeres af DMZ til din Turbo Station. Når denne indstilling bruges, vil alle porte fra WAN til LAN blive forwarded til din Turbo Station.

Når du har gennemført disse to opsætnigstrin, kan du frobinde til din FTP server derhjemme, fra Internet via ftp://minTurboStation.dyndns.org for, at uploade og downloade filer.

C. Trinvis opsætning af FTP server

Gå til administrations-siden på din Turbo Station:
‧ Klik Administration for, at komme til administrations-siden. Serveren åbner et pop up vindue, hvor du skal indsætte brugernavn og password. (Default brugernavn på TS-109 og TS-209 er: admin, password: admin).
Aktivér FTP servicen
‧ Gå til FTP Service i Network settings.
‧ Afkryds boksen "Enable FTP Service". Du kan enten ændre FTP porten eller anvende standard porten 21. Du kan også bestemme det maksimale antal tilladte forbindelser og indstille Unicode understøttelse samt indstillingerne for anonym login. Når du er færdig med opsætningen, skal du klikke på Apply og din FTP service er nu aktiveret.
Konfigurer bruger- og mappeadgangsindstillinger
Adgangsrettighederne for FTP serveren på din Turbo Station svarer til adgangsrettighederne for delte netværksmapper på Turbo Station, der er indstillet i Netværksdeling (Network Share Management). Derfor kan du - når du har konfigureret brugerkonti- og mappeadgangsrettigheder for din Turbo Station,- anvende den samme brugerkonto og password til, at forbinde til FTP serveren i din Turbo Station.

‧ Du kan gå til brugerstyringssiden (User Management) for, at oprette eller slette brugerkonti -samt ændre login password.
‧ Du kan gå til netværksstyringssiden (Network Share Management) for, at oprette en delt mappe og definere adgangsniveauet for denne mappe (inklusive full access, read only og deny access).

I det flg. eksempel, har vi tilføjet en konto, guest123. Derefter oprettede vi en mappe, mp3music i Network Share Management og konfigurerede adgangsniveauet til, at tillade brugeren guest123 til, at få adgang til mappen mp3music. Efter gennemført konfiguration, kan brugere anvende kontoen for guest123 samt dennes password til, at forbinde til FTP serveren og læse/skrive (read/write) til filerne i mp3music mappen.
Test FTP forbindelsen
‧ I LAN connection, kan du logge ind på Web File Manageren i din Turbo Station og klikke FTP for, at få adgang til FTP serveren.

‧ Du kan også skrive ftp://username:password@Turbo Station IP_address/ direkte i webbrowseren, eks.. ftp://admin:admin@192.168.1.34 for, at forbinde til FTP serveren.

‧ Når du forbinder til FTP serveren i dit LAN fra Internettet, skal du indsætte din WAN IP-adresse eller DDNS-navn i stedet for IP adressen, eks. ftp://ivan:123456@telecomkid.dyndns.org.
‧ Du kan også benytte anerkendte FTP klient softwareapplikationer, eks. Ipswitch WS FTP_Pro, CuteFTP eller FileZilla for FTP service.

Når du har afsluttet FTP server opsætningen, er det eneste du skal, at huske IP adressen eller URL´en til din Turbo Station, samt brugernavnet og dit password for, at få adgang til serveren via FTP for fil-upload og download. Du kan også dele data, video og musik med dine kunder og venner via FTP.

Turbo Stations dimensioner er ikke ret store, hvilket gør det muligt, at placere den alle steder.
Komplette backup-muligheder: Udover backup af fotos via upload af dine filer til Turbo Station, indeholder Turbo Station avancerede "remote replication" samt "QRAID-1" instant backup og gendannelses-teknologier, så du får en komplet backup-løsning.

Konfigureres på denne måde:
A. Opsætning af din Turbo Station med få, simple trin

Installer en hard disk i din Turbo Station og færdiggør initialisereingen i henhold til Quick Installations Guiden.
Du skal sikre dig, at du har forbundet en PC og din Turbo Station til det samme LAN (Local Area Network - på dansk: Lokal-netværk). Eksekvér QNAP Finder (konfigurations metoden, der leveres af QNAP) til, at finde din QNAP Turbo Station i dit LAN så du kan tilgå Turbo Station's web administrations-side.

Serveren vil starte et pop up vindue og spørge efter brugernavn og password. (TS-109 og TS-209's default brugernavn: admin, password: admin).
Det anbefales at benytte en fast IP-adresse til din Turbo Station. (Fordi du kan få behov for, at åbne porte til nogle services på din NAT router og forwarde disse til den faste IP adresse på din Turbo Station.) Gå til Network Settings>TCP/IP Configuration. Hvis din gateway adresse er 192.168.1.1, kan du bestemme en fast IP til din Turbo Station, eksempelvis 192.168.1.34, og indstille subnet mask til 255.255.255.0. Bemærk, at LAN IP på din Turbo Station skal efinde sig i det samme LAN på NAT routeren.
Du kan flytte dine billeder til "Qmultimedia" mappen på din Turbo Station. Du kan uploade filerne via My Network Places (Mine Netværkssteder) i Windows (Skriv stien i din browser: \\192.168.1.34\ for, at få adgang til mappen - derefter kan du højreklikke på musen for, at kortlægge det valgte disk drev). Herefter kan du trække og slippe filer til - og få adgang til disse, direkte på din Turbo Station.

B. Afslut indstillingen af dine IP sharing router settings (DDNS og port forwarding indstillinger)

DDNS (Brugere, der har en fast IP-adresse på deres Internet forbindelse behøver måske ikke denne service)
De fleste Internet-udbydere stiller en eller flere dynamiske IP-adresser til rådighed for din Internet-forbindelse. (Dette gælder i den situation, hvor IP sharing routeren kræver en WAN IP fra ISP (Internet-udbyderen) via PPPoE eller DHCP -forbindelse.) For, at opsætte en server, er det nødvendigt, at have en fast IP-adresse, så brugere nemt kan vende tilbage til server adressen. Når en dynamisk IP adresse anvendes, kan du bruge en DDNS understøttet IP sharing router med din Turbo Station eller anvende din Turbo Station's DDNS funktion, og registere en adresse, der er nem, at huske fra en DDNS udbyder, til, at identificere din Turbo Station på Internettet, som f.eks. minTurboStation.dyndns.org.
Anvender du din Turbo Station uden, at befinde dig "bag" en NAT router, kan du også konfigurere den til, at bruge DDNS funktionen på din Turbo Station.
Port Forwarding
Er din Turbo Station placeret bagved NAT routeren, er det nødvendigt, at du åbner portene til nogle services på NAT routeren, og forwarder disse til den faste LAN IP-adresse på din Turbo Station. Denne funktionalitet er til rådighed på de fleste routere på markedet, og er ofte kendt som "Port Forwarding", "NAT Server" eller "Virtual Server". Du skal forwarde port 8080 til LAN IP´en på din Turbo Station (TS-109 og TS-209's default management port er 8080, f.eks. forwarde port 8080 til 192.168.1.34; for TS-101, TS-201, eller TS-100 bør du forwarde til default porten 6000). Alle eksterne pakker fra port 8080, der modtages af din NAT router vil blive forwarded til LAN IP-adressen på din Turbo Station.

PS: Nogle NAT routere indeholder DMZ settings. Du kan forwarde LAN IP adressen, der specificeres af DMZ til din Turbo Station. Når denne indstilling bruges, vil alle porte fra WAN til LAN blive forwarded til din Turbo Station.

For, at dele dine fotoalbums med venner og familie via Internettet, kan du - efter at have tilføjet disse indstillinger - få adgang til din Turbo Stations albums via the Internettet på denne adresse http://minTurboStation.dyndns.org:8080/Qmultimedia/.

C. Trin-for-trin Konfiguration af dit Digitale Foto Album

Gå til din Turbo Stations Administrations-side:
Tryk på Administration for, at komme til administrations-siden. Serveren vil komme med et pop up -vindue og spørge efter brugernavn og password. (TS-109 og TS-209's standard brugernavn: admin, password: admin, for TS-101, TS-201, og TS-100 er standard brugernavnet og password administrator: admin).
Aktiver Multimedia Station servicen
Gå til Multimedia Station siden i Network Settings.
Afkryds boxen "Enable Multimedia Station" og tryk Apply. Multimedia Station er nu klar til brug.
Upload fotos
Der er flere måder, hvorpå, du kan uploade din fotos til Qmultimedia mappen på din Turbo Station.
<1> Via FTP: Dette er den hurtigste måde, hvorpå du kan uploade alle billedfiler til Qmultimedia mappen. (Du bør sikre dig, at FTP serveren er aktiveret. Se venligst FTP server indstillingerne.)
<2> Via My Network Places (Mine netværks-steder i Windows: Træk og slip billederne til Qmultimedia mappen.

<3> Gå til Multimedia Station siden, tryk på login knappen og log ind på servicen med en Administrator bruger. Så kan du uploade fotos via web browseren (billederne skal uploades ét ad gangen).

<4> Du kan også logge ind på Web File Manageren og uploade dine billeder et for et.
Definer adgangsniveauer til dit fotoalbum
Den nyeste firmware til TS-109 og TS-209 series sætter dig i stand til, at definere adgangniveauer til den web-baserede Multimedia Station.
Bemærk, at autorisationen hér, er anderledes end fil-adgangsrettighederne til din Qmultimedia mappe. Det er kun for kontrol over adgangsrettighederne til Multimedia Station service.

Når du tilgår Multimedia Station, bliver du behandlet som "guest" før du logger ind. Klik på login ikonet. Server prompter dig med et pop up vindue, hvor du skal angive brugernavn og password. Login med system administrator's kontoinformationer. (Standard brugernavn: admin, password: admin)

Når du er logget ind som admin, skal du klikke på ikonet "Configure album authority" for, at styre adgangsrettigheder. Du kan definere dine foto-mapper til, at blive delt under QMultimedia mappen.

Før du opretter nye brugerkonti, findes der kun een system standard konto - "guest". (Al webadgang til din Multimedia Station behandles - før login - som "guest", med denne kontos retigheder). Du bør flytte de mapper, der er adgang til på guest-niveau til listen over delte albums. Det gør du ved, at trykke på "Add" knappen.
Note, husk at trykke på "Submit" knappen for, at gemme dine ændringer.

I dette eksempel er mappen "home-1006" ikke på listen over tilgængelige albums (Accessible albums). Hvis du opretter forbindelse til din Multimedia Station som "guest", vil alle mapper være delt - med undtagelse af "home-1006".

Du kan også trykke på "Create User" for, at tilføje en ny bruger - og definere password samt adgangsrettigheder for denne.

Du kan også vælge et billede, der anvendes som album cover. Tryk blot på ikonet "Set as album cover", og så er den ikke længere... :o)

Disse forbedringer er meget praktiske. De gør dig i stand til, at dele dine billeder med forskellige mennesker, som hver især kan have forskellige adgangsrettigheder.
Bladre og dele
Efter, du har uploaded dine fotos til Qmultimedia mappen, kan det tage et stykke tid, at generere thumbnails for preview. (Turbo Station opretter automatisk thumbnails kl 03:00 (system tid) hver nat. Når thumbnails er oprettet, kan du logge ind på din Multimedia Station og nyde dine let-tilgængelige web-baserede foto albums.

Struktureret organisation:
Vælg en mappe og klik på den. Thumbnails af hvert billede vil blive vist, hvilket gør gennemsyn nemt og bekvemt.

Klik på et thumbnail og et større thumbnail af det aktuelle billede vil blive vist med det samme. Oplysninger om billedet bliver også vist; eksempelvis filnavn, opløsning, størrelse, dato, info om anvendt blitz, kamera, focus indstilling etc.

For, at åbne den originale billedfil, skal du blot klikke på billedet og originalbilledet vil nu åbne i et nyt browservindue.

Det operationelle interface af disse strukturerede billeder, thumbnails billed-informationer genereres automatisk af din Turbo Station, efter upload af dine billeder. Dette gør det nemt og simpelt for dig, at styre dine albums. Desuden er det værd at nævne, at billederne på din Turbo Station nemt kan ses enten via dit lokale netværk (LAN) eller via Internettet.

Konklusion
Back up af digitale fotos med Turbo Station, kan sikre brugere ekstra databeskyttelse samt auto-oprettelse af web-foto-albums, der er nemme at dele og finde rundt i. Fra at afspille mp3 filer direkte fra computeren, over til at benytte mp3 afspillere som f.eks. iPod og med udbredelsen af DMP (Digital Media Player), er den digitale livsstil blevet mere og mere raffineret. Efter aktivering af disse funktioner, vil filerne i Qmultimedia mappen på din Turbo Station være delt med det samme. Herefter kan du bruge iTunes til, at få adgang til mp3 filerne på din Turbo Station.

Du skal vælge, at aktivere iTunes Serveren og trykke på Apply. Turbo Station iTunes Serveren vil nu blive aktiveret!

Flyt dine mp3 filer til Qmultimedia mappen på din Turbo Station via Netværkssteder i Windows eller via FTP. Disse filer vil være delt af din Turbo Station på netværket.

Download og anvend iTunes software
iTunes bør være velkendt for alle Apple iPod users. Det er musikafspilningssoftware, der understøtter filkonvertering til og valg af musik i iPod. Du kan downloade denne software gratis på Apple´s website.

Tryk på Free Download og vælg den korrekte iTunes-version (Windows eller Mac).

iTunes Setup Assistenten vises nu på din skærm. Følg instruktionerne og afslut installationen.

Efter veloverstået installation, kan du nu se iTunes´ interface.

Forbind nu computeren og Turbo Stationen til det samme LAN (som vist i ovenstående illustration). En valgmulighed: "SHARED-My-NAS" (My-NAS er servernavnet på din Turbo Station) vil komme til syne i venstre side af iTunes interfacet. Dette vises når iTunes er installeret på din computer. Den vil finde iTunes Serveren i Turbo Stationen på netværket. Vælg den viste mulighed, hvorefter musikfilerne på din Turbo Station vil blive vist.

Denne funktion er meget nyttig. Du kan gemme dine mp3 filer på din Turbo Station i stedet for på forskllige computere derhjemme - og derefter afspille filer på din Turbo Station med iTunes playeren fra enhver computer på netværket.

Digitale Media Player enheder som f.eks. Roku's Sound Bridge, har opnået en enorm popularitet. Nogle af disse enheder begynder også, at understøtte musikafspilning via iTunes over netværket. Du kan anvende disse enheder til, at afspille dine mp3 filer på din Turbo Station uden, at skulle tænde computeren.

Konklusion
Med iTunes Serveren, der findes i din Turbo Station, kan du gemme alle dine mp3 filer ét sted og dele dem på dit lokalnetværk.
